I was trying to come up with the right words to indicate to Kieran just how I truly felt, but my ability to do that was slightly hindered in my current state. I was naked in my bed, my body curled into his, and I had just experienced rewards like I never knew was possible.

Not only was I blown away by just how wonderful it had been, but I was also relieved that it had happened at all.

When Kieran and I walked out of Sierra Grillhouse after our dinner and dessert, we were surprised to see the snow had started falling. Apparently, the forecasters had gotten the timing of the storm wrong because not only had a significant amount of snow already accumulated on the ground, but it was also falling very fast.

The drive back to my house had started okay, but the snow had reduced the visibility substantially. As we crawled along, I ordered, “I don’t care what plans you had for tonight, Kieran. If they involved you driving home, you better change them. You’re not leaving my house once we get there.”

He let out a laugh and returned, “It’s a bit of a turn-on to see your bossy side come out.”

“Just get us back safely,” I demanded, though there was no mistaking the nervousness in my tone.

In a move that made me think he was insane, Kieran took one hand off the wheel and reached across the center console toward me. Giving my hand a reassuring squeeze, he promised, “I would never let anything bad happen to you, Elise.”

The feeling those words gave me swept through me, and I was no longer worried about the fact that he’d taken one hand off the wheel.

Though it took longer than it would have if there hadn’t been any snow, Kieran managed to get us to my home safe and sound. And when he pulled the truck to a stop and turned it off, he ordered, “Don’t you dare move. The last thing I want is to get you here in one piece and have you slip and fall walking to the front door. Wait for me to come and get you.”

“Okay,” I agreed because I knew there was a pretty good chance I’d fall if I didn’t wait for him.

And as he walked around the front of the truck to come to my side to get me out, I couldn’t stop my heart from swelling in my chest. He was such a good man.

When he opened my door, he instructed, “Swing your legs this way and scoot over.”

I did as he asked.

A moment later, he leaned forward, wrapped an arm around my waist, and advised, “Watch your head.”

That barely registered before Kieran lifted me out of the seat and over his shoulder. I heard him slam the door shut only seconds before he turned and started moving toward the front door.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Carrying your ass inside.”

“I could walk,” I argued. “I could have just held on to you.
